We’re building 500 new council homes for local people to help tackle London’s housing crisis. This is part of our commitment to deliver new affordable homes for people in housing need across the Lewisham borough. This map shows where these homes are being developed and at what stage of development they are in.

In July 2012 we started the New Homes, Better Places programme to build 500 new council homes, the first to be built in a generation.
So far, 91 new homes have been built, with another 338 new homes either under construction or working their way through the planning process.
This is part of our approach to building 2,000 new affordable homes in Lewisham – an ambitious programme which will deliver high-quality homes for local people.
Why we’re doing this
The lack of available council housing is a significant issue in Lewisham. More affordable homes are needed to meet the current housing needs of families and individuals who live in the borough. These new homes will create affordable housing for 1,750 people.
How we’re doing this
We’re working with a number of partners to deliver different types of council housing and meet a range of needs across the borough. This includes designing developments for the needs of older people who want to remain independent in a home of their own, as well as developing accommodation for the needs of Lewisham’s homeless households.
We’re also diversifying the methods we use to deliver these new homes. For example, following the success of the award winning PLACE/Ladywell scheme, we are using innovative pre-manufactured approaches to develop high-quality housing that is built quickly and effectively.
Tackling the housing crisis is a priority in Lewisham and we’re working hard to deliver new council homes that are affordable, well designed, high-quality places where people would like to live.
